With a known chronology of occupation from the 4th century BC to the 4th century AD (based on a ceramological analysis), the Ctividade de Bagunte has been known, since very early on, as an ancient settlement. In the 18th century, Jerónimo Contador de Argote, citing the Book of Counties, mentioned the existence, on Monte da Catividade, of ruins of an ancient city. It is a village of enormous dimensions, with more than 50 hectares of area of interest. This town is the subject of a cultural revitalization project – the Bagunte archaeological field.

The Bagunte Ctividade is located to the northeast in the Municipality of Vila do Conde, on an elevation (Monte da Catividade) that reaches 206 meters in altitude and where water lines originate that mostly drain into the Este River. It constitutes the highest point in the parish, a ridge that separates the basins of Rio Este and Rio Ave (to the northwest and southeast respectively).

A settlement of pre-Roman origins, it has a complex system of walls. In archaeological excavations, the “Torques de Bagunte” were found, five silver jewels that attest to the importance and artistic level of this community. It is a village of enormous dimensions, with more than 50 hectares of interesting area.
