The church was built on lands belonging to the Benedictine Monastery of Castro de Avelãs and destined for the convent of Claras, it would eventually be handed over to the priests of the Society of Jesus in 1562, where, in annexes, they founded a college. The one-nave church reflects the reforms made by the Jesuits (seventeenth and eighteenth centuries) and the interventions made since 1768, when assigning cathedral functions to the temple. The main altar features gilded woodcarving of national style and the balustrade choir is from the 16th century. XVIII. Deserves an attentive visit to the Sacristy (XVII century), for the beauty of the decoration and for the richness of the paintings on the paneled ceiling (narrating the life of Saint Ignatius). Also the Cloister deserves special attention.
